What to Do on a June Gloom Day

San Diego is known for it’s weather: sunny and 70s year round. However, there’s a term natives know that many visitors don’t: “June Gloom”. It’s the (shocking) cloudiness that happens in early summer months, sometimes starting in May. Here are top activities to do at this time when sun bathing isn’t prime:

1. Beach Volleyball

When the sun is high in the sky, you can get real sweaty and real sun burnt, which makes playing on a mild, cloudy day is optimal. Hit Pacific Beach itself or head to South Mission Beach. With all the nets, it’s the ultimate arena.

2. Cozy up in a Cafe

Head to one of the wonderful PB cafes and curl with a hot tea and good book. The Chai Tea Latte at Java Earth and wide array of hot beverages at Cafe 976 are top choices on cloudy days.

3. Try a New Restaurant

Many favorite venues have outdoor patios or beach-facing windows. (Of course we want to go to World Famous again when there are cheap tacos and beach views!) The heat of spicy food isn’t always appealing on warm days, so go inland and hit up World of Curry on Garnet or Tweety Thai Cuisine (located in the shopping center with Vons and CVS).

4. Go Shopping

On a beautiful day, many would rather hit the sand rather than shops, making cloudy days perfect for shopping boutiques on Garnet.
