In PB there’s a lot of people donning Nikes and strapping on iPods because, let’s be real, there’s nothing like an exhilarating run on a sunny beach day! You may run where your heart tells you or like to pick a trail. If you’re the latter, here are our top 4 recommendations:
1. Mission Bay Park This beautiful park is highly geared towards runners; its winding oceanside trail keeps your mind surprised by what’s around the corner. If you’re driving to the beach; it’s the best trail because it has many large parking lots.
2. Pacific Beach Boardwalk to La Jolla This is a great run for intermixing people watching with ocean gazing. It starts flat at the boardwalk, but, as you head up towards La Jolla, the hills begin to climb for a great leg workout.
3. Straight up, calf-burning sand. Head to the end of Mission Beach, aka South Mission Beach, park in the lot and walk out onto the sand. Turn north towards La Jolla, and go! Run through Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, turning around when ready. If you want more upon returning, cross over to the Mission Bay side. Repeat!
4. Kate O. Sessions Park This may not be ideal for a long run, but you can definitely work it into a neighborhood run or use it for intense uphill sprint, which’ll get calves burning quick!
