Love Theater? Just 9 Days Left of “MAESTRO” in Downtown San Diego

If you enjoy live entertainment that makes you laugh out loud and musical masterpieces, there’s a show in San Diego you must see. It’s only here until July 17th, 2016, before it heads to New York. From the director of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Joel Zwick, and music of world-famous composers like Beethoven, this one man-show at the San Diego REPertory Theatre combines the first-person narrative and songs that inspired Leonard Bernstein.

If you haven’t heard of Leonard Bernstein by name, you’ve heard of him by tune.

The World-Famous Man Who Inspired the Show

Leonard Bernstein has been considered one of the most talented and successful musicians in U.S. history – famous worldwide as a conductor, composer, pianist, author and beyond. Hershey Felder plays Bernstein in this enticing one man show that spans most of Bernstein’s life – from his anecdotes of starting the piano as a child (which certainly made the audience chuckle Opening Night) to the ups & downs he experiences later in life.

Though there is only one person on stage for the show, which is approximately 1 hour and 36 minutes, he voices many characters and perspectives – offering a far more dimensional piece than one might expect from a single individual.

Why MAESTRO Gets a Standing Ovation

What truly takes this performance to the next level, in addition to Felder’s incredible ability to play the piano, mimic characters and tell stories, is the lighting and projection design. Images and videos are cast around and behind Felder throughout the show – creating fully encompassing scenes that make you forget there is not several personalities entertaining on stage.

Opening night, Hershey Felder received a much-deserved standing ovation and is sure to each night after.
