What To Do When It’s Raining in PB

As unbelievable as it might be, it does sometimes rain in San Diego. Even though I’ve lived here for over 7 years, I still get surprised when I see a forecast for precipitation. When this happens, what should our bicycling, running-loving community do?

Here are the best things to do on a rainy day in San Diego:

  1. Visit a museum in Balboa Park.

Hop on the freeway and drive about 15 minutes to Balboa Park. It has 17 museums covering everything from art (The San Diego Museum of Art) to natural history (the Natural History Museum). Walking around a museum is a perfect way to avoid the rain AND learn something new.

  2. Curl up at Cafe 976.

When it’s cold and chilly out, a hot drink is so much cozier than our usual iced coffees. Grab a toasty mocha or chai tea latte at Cafe 976 with a friend or a good book.

  3. Make a fancy schmancy dinner.

When we’re running around outside, there’s little time to cook by the time we get home. Use a rainy day to go to the store (like the local PB Trader Joe’s at 1640 Garnet Avenue) and get ingredients for a recipe you’ve had pinned forever.

  4. Attend a trivia night.

Many local bars and restaurants host trivia nights, a perfect indoor activity for when it’s raining in San Diego. Here are 10 awesome trivia nights worth checking out.

  5. Drink.

Well, let’s be real, when in doubt of what to do, you can always head to one of the great local PB bars and have a drink. (If you go into Cabo Cantina, the tiki decor and beach-like atmosphere can trick you into thinking it’s still sunny and warm outside!)
