There are many ways to celebrate Independence Day in San Diego; from local parades to large-scale parties, here are some great options for 4th of July in SD.
4th of July Movin Shoes’ 10K Soledad Challenge
Join Movin’ Shoes in the second annual Mt. Soledad challenge. This group will be doing a fun, calf-burning 5K uphill to the summit of Mount Soledad – then, of course, the 5K back down. Although this will be an untimed Fun Run, the first finishing male and female will receive prizes.
This is the ultimate way to burn off all that BBQ and margaritas you (may?) be having later.
When: 7:30 – 9:30 am
Where to Meet: Movin Shoes Pacific Beach
1892 Garnet Avenue
San Diego, CA 92109
Attend the San Diego County Fair
4th of July may be the biggest day of the entire San Diego County Fair; that’s because they have many special events, live music and a very impressive firework show.
Big Bay Boom Fireworks at the Bay
The fireworks across the bay are the biggest in all San Diego County. You can choose from a variety of viewpoints, such as:
- Shelter Island
- Harbor Island
- The Embarcadero
When: 9 pm
Music to Play: There’s corresponding music, so make sure to turn on THE MIGHTY 1090 AM or MAX FM 105.7

Have a Beach Day in PB, MB or OB
Spend the day at Ocean Beach or Pacific Beach. The view will be better from Ocean Beach but – if you’re on Pacific Beach or Mission Beach, you’ll likely be able to look Southward and see the OB fireworks, too.
Book a 4th of July Hornblower Dinner Cruise
The Hornblower is offering a VIP experience on their 4th of July dinner cruises in San Diego; enjoy a gourmet buffet meal and take in the fireworks from your fantastic spot on right on the water.
