The Best New San Diego Restaurants 2015 (You Need to Try in 2016!)

San Diego is loved by foodies for good reason; there are many amazing restaurants and cafes, including new ones that are opening each year. Here are 3 particularly AMAZING SD restaurants that opened in 2015 and have won praise ever since.

Half Door Brewing Company (East Village)

This Irish pub near PETCO Park launched at the beginning of 2015. After about a year, Half Door Brewing Company has gotten much praise for the beer and food (like Ahi Tacos and Banh Mi Pizza) it serves in the East Village. Check out visuals of their amazing beer and food on the Half Door Brewing Instagram.

Catania (La Jolla)

This Whisknladle hospitality group restaurant opened Catania in 2015, and it was an instant smash hit. Based on the great location (top floor of La Plaza on Girard Avenue) and incredible food (headed by executive chef Vince Schofield) it is truly magnifique! From the unique pizzas, salad and seafood to the hand-crafted cocktails, there is truly something for everyone.

P.S. Their happy hour is amazing. It’s when you can enjoy select cocktails for only $5 – $9 and get their gourmet, wood-fired, Italian pizzas like Funghi and Merguez Sausage at only $11 each.

Karina’s Mexican Food (Downtown San Diego)
A new Mexican spot opened in downtown San Diego 2015: Karina’s. It’s just a short drive from Pacific Beach when you want an urban-vibing dinner. They are best known for great ceviche (particularly their signature one: Ceviche Karina’s) and chicken fajitas. And if you’re starving, don’t worry. They offer free chips and salsa for you to enjoy while you wait. Plus, they have a wicked good happy hour. This happy hour makes it the perfect place to go before attending a comedy club show, concert, Padres game or other event in downtown San Diego.

Quick Warning: There is a sassy, Hooter-esque vibe to Karina’s!
