The 2 Best Spots for Pumpkins in San Diego #jackolanterns

Halloween is almost here. That means pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin bread and any other pumpkin thing you can think of, such as the new pumpkin spice hair trend.

Let’s get back to pumpkin traditions that have been around a lot longer, like carving Jack O Lanterns. There plenty of great spots to get good pumpkins in San Diego, but these are two of the BEST.

Julian Mining Company

The name mining might not draw up images of pumpkins, but this historical spot hosts an amazing pumpkin patch every year. In Julian, on Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm, head up to the Julian Mining Company for pumpkin picking.

At the same time you can:

  • Go Gold Panning
  • Gem Sluice
  • Do Tomahawk Throwing
  • Build-Your-Own Birdhouse
  • Go Apple Picking
  • Join in on Hayrides
  • Drink U-Press Cider
  • Meet animals at the Petting Zoo

It’s at: 4444 State Hwy 78, Julian, CA. Just don’t forget to stop in town on the way home for a slice of famous Julian apple (or rhubarb or boysenberry…) pie.

Bates Nut Farm

Like Julian Mining Company, the Bates Nut Farm is much more than just a pumpkin patch. Sure, you will go and find amazing pumpkins at Bates Nut Farm. However, this Valley Center spot also has:

  • Tractor hayrides
  • Farm animals
  • A Petting zoo
  • A country store

Plus, each and every weekend in October there will be a special event. That includes everything from dog dress up contests and arts and crafts to scarecrow contest and farm education workshops.

There’s a huge advantage to Bates Nut Farm: It’s open every day until Halloween from 9 am to 5 pm, not just on weekends. You can head to Bates Nut Farm at: 15954 Woods Valley Rd., Valley Center, Ca
