5 Reasons to Drive North for The San Diego County Fair

Yes, the traffic can get wicked wild getting into the SD County Fair in Del Mar. But with the wide variety of activities, foods and entertainment, a little extra time singing to the car radio is more than worth it.

Here are great reasons to attend and things to do at the San Diego County Fair.

There’s Cheap Wine Tasting

Yes, you can get low cost wine tasting at the SD Fair. For just a $5 glass fee at the Wine Garden Bar, try out local vineyards’ offerings most days at 4 and 5 pm. Simply head to the Paul Ecke Jr. Garden Show.

It’s Acceptable to Eat Food That’s Dangerously Deep Fried

The SD County Fair has some food that would be likely unacceptable anywhere else. Come here to tuck into glorious treats like:

  • The Krispy Kreme Chicken Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Deep fried Oreos
  • Bacon-Wrapped Cactus
  • Bacon-Wrapped Brussel Sprouts

The Theme is Western

Don your cowboy boots – for somewhere besides Moonshine Beach. With an emphasis on Western, look forward to new exhibitions, areas and entertainment, such as:

  • Frontier Town
  • Where the West is Fun Kid Exhibit
  • Goat Milking
  • The Gypsy TIme Travellers
  • Tall Tales of the West

You Can Meet a Camel

The Oasis Camel Dairy of Ramona is bringing camels to the California Grown Exhibit; meet one up close at the Camel Exhibition. And get ready to be jealous of their eyelashes; no amount of mascara can match to their level.

The Chance to Win Pretty Award Ribbons

Just because you didn’t enter an entire garden display doesn’t mean you can’t win at the SD fair. There are contests anyone can enter, like Boomers & Beyond Trivia and Watermelon Seed Spitting.
